This is one of the life-threatening viruses that is spreading like a wildfire through the world. Here can you read how you can protect your rabbits from this virus.

RVHD or Rabbit Viral Hemorrhagic Disease as it also is known as one of the two big deadly diseases that your rabbit can get. This virus is caused by a Calicivirus.

These virus RVHD are from the beginning released in Australia to get rid of the wild rabbit population. But as the rabbits got immune the virus somehow upgraded to a new version, RVHD2. The virus is very contagious so you have to be very careful.

Your rabbit can get the virus in several different ways:
- By walking on the ground where a infected rabbit have been. And then going home with the same shoes and your rabbit walk by them.
- A infected rabbit have walked on the grass you get as hay.
- Directly contact with an infected rabbit.
- By mosquitoes or other blood sucking insects.

There are vaccines against the virus. But not everyone is effective against both RVHD1 and RVHD2. Not every country have vaccin against them either.

Contact your nearest veterinary for more information.
