DIY hayrack -IKEA Hack

Image 1. Click to open in original size.

Before getting my rabbit, I had no time to go to the pet shop so had to quickly put together a few things to make him feel at home.

Luckily, I had a Variera plastic bag dispenser already at home, you can buy one for the small price £1.50 from IKEA.  Typically ideal for storing things like plastic bags, toilet/kitchen rolls, gloves and socks, I decided to stuff mine with hay to create my own hayrack. This now acts as a feeder for my bunny and keeps my rabbit-run nice and tidy.

Hay is a vital part of your rabbit's diet, it provides the high fibre and helps keep teeth from overgrowing as well as keeping their digestive system healthy, it should make up around 80% of their diet and should also be kept clean and up from the floor. In the wild, rabbits probably spend at least 75% of their awake time foraging for foods, thus the holes in this rack is a great way to recreate their natural habits and prevent boredom!

It's as if it was actually built for that! Good thinking on your feet there!

Only thing to think of is placing it or arrange so the bunny can't get in to it through the top of it because they can get stuck!

#5 oh no bless the poor bunny! That's awful! Thanks for sharing, this is really important. Luckily I upgraded my hay feeder a while back now and that was only temporary.
